Projects

Information Table – This table holds brochures, business cards, flyers, newsletters, current information and contacts for our women.  This information helps them stay current and can generate questions related to their specific needs.

Celebrating Lives Of Cancer Survivors (C.L.O.C.S.) – When you join us at our monthly BreastFests, you will note that some of our local community have kindly donated monthly items and services.  These items include: handmade jewelry, creams, hats, scarves, gift cards, beauty items, certificates and other gifts to help pamper women with cancer.

This project was created by Lori L. Stephens, a life long resident of Ventura.  She dedicated her time to help Ribbons of Life raise money to meet our short and long term goals.

Open Crafts – This project is available during Saturday Create4Life, when other specific activities are not scheduled. It can include having participants bring their own project to share with others or sessions where many joy filled projects go on at the same time.

– Care Bag Project – Bags are individually handmade and filled with items based on an individuals needs to serve women in Ventura County. Fabric cutters and sewers are always needed and welcome to help make Ribbons of Life Care Bags for women who are preparing for surgery and other breast cancer treatments.  Local vendors are needed to help us fill these bags with heartwarming items that will provide inspiration, pampering, humor, love and more as they go through their journey with breast cancer.  Pictured is Allyson S. holding a bag and Darci D. as she begins the project in 2013.

– Women’s Care Project – This project was infused with love and care by the Charles D. and Mary A. Bauer Foundation Grant.  This grant assists women in treatment with lymphadema wrappings and sleeves, items for the C.L.O.C.S. table and the provision of personal products and services. The grant funds were presented in September 2017 by Sandra & Doug Moe, the daughter and son-in-law of the Bauer’s to which we are so grateful.

Precursors to Create4Life:

Photo Quilt – From Ventura to Santa Paula, from Oxnard to Camarillo, at cancer walks, in classrooms, and at special events, this quilt got around! Our Ribbons of Life PHOTO QUILT project is built from the heart of our organization.

Knitting in Recovery – Professional knitting instructor Lisa Solvang taught us how to knit “care squares” and more!  Survivors/thrivers who take up knitting are finding it helps relax them and gives them a project to work on while in waiting rooms and on long drives or while sitting at home recovering.

 – Lymphedema Assistance Program – This project was established to help defer the cost of lymphadema supplies for those who are under insured or without insurance.  Contributions can be directed to this assistance program.
